    • Police – Tactical searches: Can be inserted through doors or windows, providing 360° visibility in rooms to detect suspects or hazards early on.
    • SWAT / Special forces – Hostage and anti-terrorist operations: Enables silent room reconnaissance before entry, even in complete darkness thanks to IR illumination.
    • Customs – Container and cargo inspection: Inserted through small openings or between pallets to reveal hidden persons or contraband.
    • Border protection – Vehicle and building searches: Quickly deployed for covert inspections of vehicles, tunnels, or border shelters.
    • Military / Army – Urban combat reconnaissance: Provides secure visual reconnaissance in buildings, bunkers, or confined spaces without revealing your position.
    • Navy – Boarding and ship inspections: Provides all-around visibility in cargo holds and maintenance shafts during boarding operations or port inspections.
    • Air Force – Hangar and aircraft surveillance: Helps detect unauthorized persons or objects in areas that are difficult to access.
    • Disaster control/rescue – Debris and search operations: Can be inserted into cavities or collapsed buildings to locate missing persons.
    • Incident command – real-time situation monitoring: Multiple observers can be connected live via app, improving coordination and decision-making.
    • Preservation of evidence – documentation with GPS and time stamp: Recorded data is used for analysis, evidence gathering, or training after the operation.
    • Situation assessment before entering unknown or dangerous spaces. FL360 is a mission-critical tool that improves safety, speeds up search operations, and optimizes communication during time-critical rescue missions.

FIRSTLOOK360 – ADVANTAGES IN SPATIAL ORIENTATION

For Technical Search Specialists (TSS), spatial orientation, i.e., the view of an empty space from the perspective of the search camera, is usually the most important tool that a TSS operator uses to locate people.

With older articulated cameras, the search technique consists of looking forward, swiveling the mast to the left, looking, then swiveling to the right and looking again. This process is repeated until the room has been searched 360 degrees. This system of viewing a room works like a clock, ensuring that every angle (time) of that empty room is recorded. This technique undoubtedly works and has served us well for many years. Today, modern technology can help us do this work in a more time-saving, better, safer, and more efficient way.

The difficulty with this search method arises when the TSS operator is disoriented, i.e., when they do not know which direction the camera is pointing. Since many of the empty spaces that a camera enters do not allow the TSS operator to estimate the location of their own search camera, they can quickly become spatially disoriented. So the question is: where exactly do you look in this space? However, knowing where to look is critical and important because when a victim is found and rescue equipment is needed to free them, it is essential to know exactly where they are located so as not to injure the victim. On the one hand, the location of the victim in the rubble field is tracked during the rescue operation, but on the other hand, the information should also be able to be passed on for a safe rescue.

With the introduction of FL360, all this has changed. FL360 requires no moving parts because it uses 360° spherical images. Two camera lenses capture a wide field of view, and the FL360 app stitches these images together into a 360° view of the room. It is no longer necessary to move a camera head and pole to capture an entire room.

The SST operator simply places the FL360 camera in an empty room and scans that room with their finger over the live stream on the tablet. This brings us to the spatial orientation features on the screen that Firstlook360 has introduced to assist operators.

  • With meridian lines
The meridian line is the dividing point between the two lenses of the FL360 camera. It provides the operator with additional orientation assistance in a room. In addition, the front pointer marked with a “circle” provides a spatial reference point that lies on the same axis as the telescopic pole. The rear view of the camera is marked with an “X”. When you look at the “X,” you are looking directly behind the camera.

  • With field of view display
The field of view (FoV) display at the top right of the camera control screen is used for the operator’s spatial orientation. It is the compass of the search camera. The field of view display consists of two components – a horizontal field of view display and a vertical field of view display. The horizontal field of view is represented by the white sector and shows the angle of the horizontal field of view as well as the total size of the field of view. The vertical field of view is represented by the red center line and shows the angle of the vertical field of view in relation to the telescopic pole. When you look straight ahead, the FoV display appears.

FIRSTLOOK360 – THE MOST IMPORTANT FEATURES

  • 360° SPHERICAL VIEW – FIRSTLOOK360 (FL360) is a hybrid search camera that uses two cameras and specially developed software to stitch together multiple spherical live streams to create a smooth image landscape that can be viewed, analyzed, and edited on a mobile device (tablet or smartphone). In addition, the digital video images are transmitted in HD quality and are designed for wired or wireless transmission to an Android mobile device.
  • NIGHT VISION/COLOR CAPABILITIES Using night vision technology, the FL360 IR-C offers improved visibility in low-light or no-light environments (the display is black and white), reducing dependence on ambient light and optimizing operational efficiency for nighttime operations. In addition, the camera extends its functionality to daytime operation, ensuring versatility in changing light conditions.
  • 360° VIDEO RECORDING – Another major advantage of this technology is that the images can also be evaluated retrospectively across the entire 360-degree spectrum. Not only are the respective image sections evaluated, but the search camera also stores the entire spherical image. Third parties, such as the incident commander, can then freely search the entire 360-degree view, which significantly increases the chances of a successful search.
  • NO MOVING PARTS – Some search cameras have moving parts to ensure a panoramic view during rescue operations. The sensitive parts enable classic zoom and focus functions. The challenge with devices that have such moving parts during a search operation with unpredictable situations is that they can be damaged.
  • INTERCOM FUNCTION – It is also possible to contact the patient or victim or receive sounds via an intercom system and the microphones and speakers built into the search camera. The ability to communicate with patients and victims is an essential and important feature of modern search cameras.
  • WIRELESS & WIRED – It is not possible to establish secure and stable wireless communication between the search camera and the tablet in every rescue operation. To ensure that the rescue operation can still be carried out successfully, it is possible to operate the FIRSTLOOK360 search camera in wired mode, thus establishing a stable and interference-free connection with the search camera.
  • 360° ILLUMINATION – Our search cameras have the advantage that they can be pushed through the smallest cavities and transmit an excellent, well-lit image to the screen thanks to their built-in LED lighting. The LED lighting illuminates the surroundings 360 degrees and saves battery power compared to conventional lighting, which increases the operating time of the search camera.
  • UNDERWATER ADAPTATION – In addition, the FIRSTLOOK360 search camera can also be used in water and can be easily converted and prepared for longer rescue operations in water. Short operations in wet environments can also be carried out with the standard search camera equipment without damaging the search camera’s microphones and speakers.
  • UNINTERRUPTED BATTERY REPLACEMENT – The modern and innovative design of the FIRSTLOOK360 search camera allows for uninterrupted operation, even when the batteries need to be replaced (hot-swap capability). The rescue operation can continue seamlessly. In addition, the search camera uses commercially available rechargeable batteries or batteries and does not require special products that are time-consuming or costly to procure.
