FIRSTLOOK 360 - UNIVERSAL APP

First things first: With the FirstLook360 Universal App, up to five people can simultaneously access the recorded images. One user acts as the camera operator, while four others act as observers and can view the images in real time. This feature enables efficient collaboration, better situation assessment, and faster decision-making—regardless of whether the participants are in the same location or spread out across different locations. The operator retains full control of the camera, while observers get a live view without disrupting the workflow.

The FirstLook360 Universal App is designed to simplify teamwork, improve communication, and deliver information exactly where it’s needed—instantly and reliably.

FIRSTLOOK 360 - UNIVERSAL MOBILE APP - THE FEATURES

Multi-user function of the IRC FL360 FirstLook search camera

The IRC FL360 FirstLook is a modern 360° infrared search camera that has been specially developed for rescue and tactical operations. An outstanding feature of this camera is its multi-user capability, which allows up to five mobile devices to be connected to one camera at the same time.

This system allows a main operator to control the camera while up to four other users (observers) view the live images in parallel on their own tablets or smartphones. This enables multiple team members to analyze the 360° field of view simultaneously, identify critical details, and make important decisions faster—a decisive advantage in time-critical operational situations.

The connection is established via a powerful 802.11n MIMO Wi-Fi module with two antennas in the 2.4 GHz range. Alternatively, wired data transmission is also possible, for example over longer distances or in environments with weak radio signals. The camera is compatible with Android and iOS devices on which a special app is installed to receive and control the live stream.

While the operator has full control over the camera, lighting, and recording, the observers serve as additional eyes in the team. This division allows tactical units, firefighters, or rescue workers to observe different image sections or viewing directions simultaneously without the main operator having to worry about passing on the information.

In practice, the multi-user function significantly increases situational awareness, safety, and efficiency. Especially in scenarios such as searching for people in rubble, tunnel and cave operations, or when investigating dangerous spaces, the entire team can work together in real time and react immediately to new findings.

The multi-user technology of the FL360 FirstLook thus combines state-of-the-art communication with tactical operational practice – a clear example of progress in networked rescue technology.

FIRSTLOOK 360 - SPHERICAL IMAGING 360 DEGREES

Advantages over articulated camera technology – The FirstLook360 (FL360) uses an innovative spherical imaging system that captures the entire room in a single shot. Using two ultra-wide-angle lenses and special software, the camera produces a seamless, complete 360° panoramic image. This technology enables an immediate panoramic view without the need to move the camera head.

Unlike traditional articulated cameras, which require the camera head to be mechanically panned or tilted, the FL360 operates completely motionless. This eliminates all potential weak points that could arise from mechanical parts and ensures that the camera remains reliable even under harsh conditions.

Advantages of spherical imaging

  • Immediate panoramic view: The entire room—from floor to ceiling and in all directions—can be captured without delay. This saves valuable time when searching for people or assessing the situation.
  • Greater reliability: Since there are no moving parts, the risk of wear, failure, or damage is significantly reduced.
  • Improved orientation: Emergency personnel can maintain an overview at all times, as they can virtually rotate and view the environment in all directions without having to reposition the camera.
  • Retrospective analysis: Recorded 360° videos can be freely rotated and examined afterwards, which makes documentation and post-operation review much easier.

Increased efficiency: Since no manual panning or focusing is necessary, rooms can be checked more quickly and thoroughly.

FIRSTLOOK 360 - ADVANTAGES OVER ARTICULATED IMAGING

Articulated cameras offer only limited fields of view and require constant manual tracking to cover different viewing directions. This leads to increased time expenditure and carries the risk of overlooking important details. In addition, moving components are more susceptible to technical malfunctions—especially in dusty, wet, or confined environments.

The FL360’s spherical imaging completely eliminates these disadvantages. It provides a complete real-time image of the room without mechanical movement and allows multiple responders to access the same live image simultaneously. This significantly improves efficiency, safety, and precision in search and rescue operations.

Articulated imaging – how it works and differences

Articulated imaging is a camera system with a mechanically movable camera head that is controlled by joints or motors. The operator can use a joystick or rotary handle to pan and tilt the camera to view specific areas, such as in rubble, shafts, or confined spaces. The technology offers precise view control and is well suited for spot inspections. It has proven itself in search and rescue operations when a specific point needs to be observed.

However, the camera head only shows a limited section at a time. To capture the entire room, the operator must track the camera multiple times, which requires time and concentration. In addition, the moving components are sensitive to dust, water, and shocks, which limits their reliability in harsh environments.

In comparison, FirstLook360’s spherical imaging captures the entire room in a single 360° image without mechanical movement. It offers instant panoramic viewing, faster orientation, and lower maintenance – a significant advance over traditional articulated camera technology.
