A key feature is the P.O.P.S. structure, which allows the protective tent to be placed over the patient and first responder without having to move or lift them. This feature makes the RIGLOO particularly valuable in critical situations where every movement should be avoided. At the same time, it immediately creates a protected space that shields against external influences and unwanted glances and enables controlled medical care in the field.
The RIGLOO protective tent is used in a variety of demanding situations. It is suitable for emergency care at accident sites, for longer treatments in the field, for search and rescue operations, and for disaster and civil defense operations. It also offers a decisive advantage in roadside rescues or in areas that are difficult to access, as patients can be cared for in a protected environment until evacuation is possible.
The RIGLOO DEFENDER WOODLAND and RIGLOO DEFENDER TUNDRA variants were developed specifically for military and tactical requirements. The Woodland version blends inconspicuously into wooded and rural environments and is particularly suitable for operations where camouflage and reduced visibility are crucial. The Tundra version is designed for open, snowy, or barren terrain and provides discreet protection in regions with high visibility. Both versions offer identical protection and support fast, safe first aid under operational conditions.
The RIGLOO is designed to reliably protect both patients and emergency personnel. It allows for longer on-site care without exposure to the elements, while providing sufficient freedom of movement for medical procedures. Its robust construction and reusability make the system a permanent fixture in professional equipment for use in extreme conditions.
In addition, the RIGLOO can be equipped with accessories for active heat retention, mobile power supply, and marking of deployment sites. This allows the protected space to be flexibly adapted to different tactical requirements, especially during longer deployments or in climatically challenging regions.
In summary, the RIGLOO DEFENDER is not a tent for staying in or long-term accommodation. It is a mobile, tactical protection system for acute situations in which rapid protection, minimal patient movement, and controlled medical care are crucial. In these critical phases, the RIGLOO supports emergency personnel in acting safely, efficiently, and patient-friendly under difficult conditions.
In military operations, time is of the essence when it comes to survival. The wounded often have to be treated under combat pressure, in adverse environmental conditions and with limited resources. The RIGLOO DEFENDER closes this critical gap. It immediately creates a protected, controllable space where otherwise there would only be open surroundings. The greatest tactical advantage is that the patient does not have to be moved. This prevents additional injuries, stabilizes medical care, and saves valuable minutes.
In the field, the RIGLOO does not replace medical facilities, but it acts as an upstream protective space between injury and evacuation. It enables medical work to be carried out with reduced exposure to weather, cold, heat, wind, precipitation, and observation. At the same time, it protects the emergency services, who do not have to expose themselves unprotected during treatment. Especially in cases of delayed evacuation, limited air support, or blocked transport routes, the RIGLOO becomes a decisive factor in the endurance of medical personnel.
Winter applications – RIGLOO DEFENDER TUNDRA
In cold, open, or snowy areas of operation, hypothermia is one of the greatest dangers for the wounded. Even brief exposure can drastically worsen a patient’s condition. The RIGLOO DEFENDER TUNDRA provides an immediately available shelter that protects the wounded from wind, snow, and extreme cold and preserves body heat.
Typical applications in winter include providing first aid after combat in arctic or alpine regions where immediate evacuation is not possible. Even after vehicle accidents, mine incidents, or crashes in the snow, the wounded can be protected and stabilized without removing them from their location. When patrolling in wide-open terrain, the RIGLOO allows for discreet medical care without being visible from a distance.
Especially at night or in poor visibility, the Tundra model serves as a quiet, shielded space where life-saving measures can be performed while the surrounding area continues to be secured. For casualty collection points in cold climates, it provides a flexible solution for providing protected care to multiple patients in succession until evacuation can be initiated.
Summer applications – RIGLOO DEFENDER WOODLAND
In wooded, dense, or hot areas of operation, the challenges lie less in the cold and more in the heat, humidity, rain, insect infestation, and limited visibility. The RIGLOO DEFENDER WOODLAND blends inconspicuously into these environments and enables medical care with reduced visual conspicuousness.
In summer and jungle operations, the RIGLOO is often used for longer ground operations where the wounded cannot be transported immediately. It protects against rain, direct sunlight, and increased stress from the environment. In forested areas of operation, it allows for covert triage and stabilization without unnecessarily revealing one’s position.
In asymmetric situations or security operations, the Woodland model serves as a temporary treatment room for advance forces or dismounted troops. The RIGLOO can also be used in humanitarian-military operations in warm climates to provide protected care for the wounded or sick while the situation on the ground is further assessed.
